Walk of Health, Mountain hiking trail in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan.
The Walk of Health is a 36-kilometer concrete pathway running along the Kopet Dag mountain range with two distinct sections and multiple rest pavilions positioned throughout. The route features protective metal railings on both sides and street lighting that allows for evening use.
The path was initiated by President Saparmurat Niyazov in 1999 as part of a national health program. Government officials were required to complete the walk annually during his tenure.
Bronze sculptures of desert animals and celestial figures decorate the walkway, while an octagonal Seljuk star pattern appears on fences and structures throughout the path.
The pathway features rest shelters and refreshment kiosks positioned along the route to help with breaks during your walk. The lighting and railings make it easy to navigate at different times and in various conditions.
The path concludes at a mountain viewpoint where the Turkmenistan flag flies, serving as a distinctive landmark for walkers. This elevated endpoint offers views of surrounding ridges and the city below.
