Turkmenistan Tower, Television tower and skyscraper in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan.
Turkmenistan Tower is a television tower and skyscraper in Ashgabat, rising 211 meters and built with a steel and glass structure. Its top is shaped like an eight-pointed star, making it easy to spot from across the city.
The tower was completed in 2011 by the Turkish construction company Polimeks, as part of a broader effort to reshape Ashgabat after independence. It rose during a period when the city was being rebuilt on a large scale with new public buildings.
The tower takes its name from the country itself, which reflects its role as a national symbol. Its interior features decorative motifs drawn from traditional Turkmen craftsmanship, visible as visitors move through the building.
The tower has two observation decks and a rotating restaurant that offer views over the city, so it is worth arriving on a clear day. Visitors should be prepared for security checks at the entrance, which are common at major public buildings in Ashgabat.
Although the tower is widely seen as a landmark, it actively transmits television and radio signals across a radius of around 100 kilometers. This means it functions as a working piece of national broadcast infrastructure, not just an architectural object.
