Mollanepes Theatre

Mollanepes Theatre is a student theatre located in central Ashgabat housed in a building with architectural elements from the 1920s that blend modern and regional design influences. The venue maintains a fully equipped stage and presents regular productions throughout the year for visitors.

The theatre was founded in 1929 as the first Turkmen Drama Studio, serving as a training ground for artists and students. In 1949 it received the Order of the Red Banner of Labor in recognition of its artistic contributions.

The theatre presents traditional Turkmen stories and experimental works performed by theatre students. The stage serves as a workspace where future actors and directors present their initial productions.

The theatre is located at Prospekt Magtymguly 79 in central Ashgabat and is easy to access. Most performances are open to visitors, making it a straightforward option for experiencing local talent and current productions.

In 2007 the venue was transformed into a dedicated student theatre focusing on modern plays and contemporary works. This shift made it a key training ground where emerging artists gain hands-on experience before launching professional careers.
