Madrasa of El Bachia

The Madrasa of El Bachia contains thirteen student rooms arranged around a central courtyard, with a prayer hall and library on the fourth side.

Built in 1752 during the Husseinite dynasty under Abu al-Hasan Ali Pasha, this educational institution specifically served students following the Hanafi school of Islamic law.

The building represents traditional Islamic educational architecture with its central courtyard layout, student accommodations, and dedicated spaces for prayer and study.

Located at 27 Rue de la Bibliothèque near the Zitouna Mosque, the madrasa currently functions as a vocational training center after extensive renovations.

The institution maintained forty-six religious endowments, providing scholarships to students with specific attendance requirements, allowing one year for pilgrimage and two months for other absences.
