Akhisar

Akhisar is a town in Manisa Province in western Turkey that serves as a regional commercial and administrative hub. The area features extensive farmland, specialized industries including olive oil production and automotive repair, and good transportation connections to nearby ports.

The site developed from the ancient city of Thyatira, which gained importance under Persian rule around 500 BC. It later became a Roman regional center from 214 AD onward, leaving behind structures whose remains are still visible today.

The town has long been shaped by olive and tobacco farming, activities that remain central to how people live and work here. Walking through the area, you notice these agricultural traditions everywhere, woven into the local identity.

The town is easily reached via State Highway 565, which connects it to larger ports and neighboring cities. The flat terrain and developed infrastructure make it straightforward to explore on foot or by vehicle.

Archaeological digs at various locations have uncovered remains of a rectangular Roman structure and scattered column heads and ancient stones throughout the modern town. These findings show that modern streets sit directly atop layers of ancient settlement.
