Nazilli, District seat in Aydın Province, Turkey
Nazilli is a district seat in Aydın Province located roughly 47 kilometers east of the provincial capital. It spreads across the Menderes Valley at 64 meters elevation and is shaped by its agricultural focus.
The area developed from a marketplace called Pazarköy into a municipality and was incorporated into the Ottoman Empire in 1390. In September 1922, it came back under Turkish control.
The town has several neighborhoods where traditional markets display regional products like fresh fruit, handmade textiles, and local goods. Visitors can experience the daily rhythm of local commerce and the role these markets play in community life.
The Basmane-Nazilli railway line connects the district to İzmir for travelers. The Mediterranean climate allows year-round cultivation of figs, olives, and citrus fruits, shaping the local economy.
Fig production is a major economic activity here with exports reaching international markets. The town plays an important role in Turkey's agricultural trade through this crop.
