Göksu Dam, Embankment dam in Diyarbakır Province, Turkey.
Göksu Dam is an embankment dam in Diyarbakır Province built from compacted rock and earth materials. It stretches more than 600 meters long and rises roughly 50 meters above the ground, with a constructed crest for passage and maintenance.
Turkish engineers completed the dam in 1991 as part of regional water infrastructure development efforts. Since its opening, it has served as a major water storage and management facility for southeastern Turkey.
The reservoir behind the dam shaped how the local communities relate to water, becoming part of the landscape people navigate daily.
The dam is accessible by road from nearby towns and settlements in the province. Water levels and dam operations vary seasonally, so conditions change throughout the year depending on water availability and irrigation needs.
The dam includes spillway systems designed to handle major water releases when needed, showcasing how much water it can manage. This capacity makes it one of the more efficient water management structures for the broader southeastern region.
