Yunt Mountains, Mountain range in western Anatolia, Turkey
The Yunt Mountains are a mountain range in western Anatolia that extends across Izmir and Manisa provinces. This ridge forms a natural boundary separating Soma, Kinik, Kirkagac, and Bergama districts from each other.
The ancient geographer Strabo called these mountains Aspordenon and documented the city of Aigai, one of the twelve settlements of ancient Aeolis. The region played an important role in the ancient Aegean world as a center of early civilizations.
During the Hellenistic period, Philetairos established a sanctuary dedicated to the goddess Cybele near the present-day Kinik district.
The mountain range offers many hiking trails that are passable throughout the year with varying difficulty levels. Visitors should prepare for changing weather conditions and bring appropriate gear for their chosen route.
The range contains remains of two ancient cities, Gambrium and Paleogambrion, which the historian Xenophon mentioned in his work Anabasis. These sites remain as evidence of early settlement in this strategically important region.
