Patara Beach

Patara Beach stretches about 18 kilometers along the Mediterranean coast with fine golden sand alongside ancient Lycian ruins. The site combines a wide, bright shoreline with remnants of an old port city where a theater and lighthouse still stand.

Patara served as a major port and trade center on the Lycian coast during Roman times. In the 3rd century, Saint Nicholas was also born here, a connection that marks the region to this day.

The beach is a protected nature reserve where endangered loggerhead sea turtles lay and incubate their eggs. During nesting season, parts of the shore are closed off to safeguard the animals and their clutches.
