Patara Beach

Patara Beach is a long sandy shore along the Mediterranean coast with fine white sand and clear blue waters. The area stretches for a considerable distance and is backed by natural sand dunes that line the water's edge.

Ancient Patara was an important port city for the Lycians until natural forces and earthquakes caused it to decline over time. The archaeological remains visible near the shore tell the story of this once-thriving place.

The beach connects to the ruins of ancient Patara, where visitors can walk among old city walls, a theater, and other structures from thousands of years ago. The two places blend together as part of the same archaeological site.

The area closes from 8 PM to 8 AM to protect sea turtle nesting grounds, so plan your visit during daylight hours. An entrance fee applies to access the beach and archaeological site together.

Strict building regulations have kept large resort hotels away from this beach because it sits within a protected archaeological zone. This has allowed the shoreline to remain in its natural state, creating a different kind of coastal experience.
