Çetin Dam, Hydroelectric power station in Siirt Province, Turkey
Çetin Dam is a hydroelectric facility on the Botan River in Siirt Province built with roller-compacted concrete construction. The installation generates electricity through multiple turbines that feed power into Turkey's national grid.
The project began in 2011 under Norwegian company Statkraft as part of regional energy development. Control later passed to Turkish operators who expanded operations at the site.
The dam represents Turkey's commitment to renewable energy development, positioning the country as Europe's second-largest hydroelectric power producer after Norway.
The best time to visit is during months with moderate weather when paths around the facility are accessible. Note that access to the installation itself may be limited and depends on local authorities.
The barrier was built using a special technique where concrete was compacted in layers with heavy rollers, a method allowing larger volumes of material. This construction approach makes it one of the most remarkable facilities of its type in Turkey and beyond.
