Beyyurdu Dam

Beyyurdu Dam is a concrete gravity structure that spans across the Bembo River in eastern Turkey, creating a large water storage area for regional use. The dam includes overflow systems designed to safely release excess water during heavy rainfall periods.

Construction began in 2008 as part of Turkey's long-term water management development program under state supervision. The project reached completion in 2015 after completion of extensive engineering work.

Local communities in the region depend on the water supply for farming and have adapted their daily work to the seasons and water flow patterns. The regulated water distribution shapes how people manage their agricultural land and maintain their fields throughout the year.

The site sits at high elevation in a mountainous area with variable weather, so sturdy footwear and appropriate clothing are recommended for any visit. Access to the area is straightforward, though paths can become slippery during or after rain.

This installation is one of eleven dams strategically positioned along the Turkey-Iraq border region. The system contributes significantly to water storage and regional infrastructure development in this border area.
