Kayseri Archaeology Museum, Archaeological museum in Melikgazi, Turkey.
The Kayseri Archaeology Museum is a modern building with two floors containing exhibition rooms with objects from different periods. The collection ranges from Neolithic finds to artifacts from Ottoman times and provides a chronological overview of the region's history.
The museum was founded in 1930 as a depot in a madrasa and relocated to a new building in 1969. In 2019 it moved again to a modern facility where the expanding collection could be better displayed.
The collection displays finds from the ancient trade city of Kültepe, including clay tablets with early written records that document the lives of merchants and craftspeople. Visitors can understand how people in this region worked and communicated thousands of years ago.
Plan to spend enough time going through the different exhibition rooms, as the objects are arranged chronologically. The facility is easy to access and the rooms are clearly organized, so you can navigate on your own.
The Heracles sarcophagus, which was discovered during construction work in the city, is among the museum's treasures. New finds from ongoing excavations at the Kültepe site are regularly added to the collection.
