Gallipoli Peninsula Historic Site

Gallipoli Peninsula Historic Site is a World War I battlefield on Turkey's western coast with preserved battlefields, cemeteries, and memorials from both sides of the conflict. The area spans a large expanse and contains separate burial grounds for Allied and Turkish forces.

The peninsula was the site of a major military campaign in 1915 when Allied forces encountered Turkish defenses. The eight-month operation resulted in heavy casualties on both sides.

The Respect to Mehmetcik Memorial shows a bronze statue of a Turkish soldier carrying a wounded Australian officer, representing humanity during wartime. This image tells a story of compassion that visitors encounter while walking through the site.

Brighton Beach near Kabatepe is the only authorized swimming location where Anzac troops once gathered during breaks from combat. This beach connects the military past to a quiet seaside retreat today.
