Taskuyu Cave, Show cave in Tarsus, Turkey.
Taskuyu Cave is a limestone system extending 470 meters through interconnected galleries, with stalactites, stalagmites, and columns throughout. Small rimstone pools are scattered across the cave passages.
Construction workers discovered the cave system in 2006 during road building. It was opened to the public by December 2014.
The cave galleries are named after the Seven Sleepers story, a religious tale shared across Islamic and Christian traditions. You can notice these connections as you walk through the named chambers.
The cave is located about 13 kilometers from Tarsus city center and is easy to reach by car. Interior temperatures stay between 19 and 24 degrees Celsius, so comfortable clothing and sturdy shoes are recommended for the uneven passages.
The cave contains natural pearl formations created by water droplets depositing calcium carbonate in small pools on the cave floor. These deposits slowly form shimmering structures that resemble real pearls.
