National Tsing Hua University is a research institution in the eastern district of Hsinchu and ranks among the leading centers for higher learning in Taiwan. The campus covers a large area with faculties in natural sciences, engineering, humanities, and social studies.
The institution started in 1911 as a college in Beijing and moved its operations to Taiwan in 1956 after the civil war. President Mei Yiqi led the relocation and built the new campus on the island.
The annual Meichu Tournament creates strong bonds between National Tsing Hua University and National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University students through sports competitions.
The campus offers many facilities for daily life and runs a clinic serving students and staff members. Dormitories accommodate a large portion of those enrolled at the institution.
The College of Nuclear Science focuses on peaceful research applications and works with Mackay Hospital to develop methods for Boron Neutron Capture Therapy. This treatment approach represents one of the less widely known research areas at the institution.
