Taipei Zoo, Public zoological garden in Wenshan District, Taipei, Taiwan
Taipei Zoo is a zoological garden in Wenshan District, Taiwan, set across gentle hills and valleys. Paths lead through wooded sections to different enclosures, including a tropical house for African animals and a bird area with aviaries along the main route.
The first site was in a northern neighborhood but became too small for growing animal collections after decades. The move to the current area occurred in the mid-1980s and allowed for larger outdoor spaces and naturalistic design.
The panda garden carries Chinese names that suggest togetherness and draws particular attention from visitors across East Asia. Many families come on weekends to see the offspring of these animals, which appear regularly in local media.
Most visitors start at the main entrance near the metro station and follow signs through the themed sections. On hot days, shaded paths and rest areas offer chances to pause, while most enclosures are more active in the morning.
A covered area for pangolins displays species often seen in illegal trade and explains their threat. The dome itself was named after these animals and provides a tropical climate for reptiles and amphibians from different rainforests.
