Chinese Culture University, Private university in Yangmingshan, Taiwan
Chinese Culture University is a private higher education institution in Shilin District on Yang Ming Mountain in Taiwan. The main campus sits on a forested slope with wide views over Tienmu neighborhood and down toward central Taipei.
The institution was founded in 1962 as Far East University and focused from the start on teaching Chinese scholarship. In 1980 it received its present name, which underlines its programmatic focus on culture and tradition.
The name reflects a mission to preserve and teach elements of traditional Chinese scholarship and arts. Visitors can explore on-campus museums that hold ceramics, ink paintings and folk objects open to the public during regular hours.
The mountain campus is reached by shuttle buses that run several times daily during term and connect students and faculty with central Taipei. Visitors should bring comfortable shoes, as paths between buildings sometimes climb steeply uphill.
Martial arts programs within the institution are particularly strong, including competitive judo teams and courses in Japanese ju jitsu. These courses attract athletes from several Asian countries who come specifically to the mountain campus for training.
