Jiantan Temple, Buddhist temple in Zhongshan District, Taiwan
Jiantan Temple is a Buddhist temple in Zhongshan District featuring traditional architecture built with stone and timber. The structure displays yellow-painted walls adorned with ornate dragon pillars and intricate ceiling patterns that reflect Taiwanese craftsmanship.
The temple was founded during the Qing Dynasty and relocated to its current site in the 1920s. The move happened because of the Taiwan Shrine's construction during Japanese rule.
The main hall holds a standing Guanyin statue, a meditation Buddha figure carved from jade, and wooden sculptures of eighteen Buddhist arhats lining both sides. These sacred figures show the craftsmanship and spiritual importance that visitors notice while exploring the interior.
The temple opens daily from 6:00 AM to 5:30 PM and is easily reached via MRT Jiannan Road Station exit 1. From there, a short walk of about three minutes along Beian Road leads you to the entrance.
The temple preserves original stone structures and wooden elements from its first location, including ancient columns and stone tablets displayed in the adjacent garden. These surviving pieces tell the story of the site before it moved.
