Luocuo Church

Luocuo Church is a Catholic worship building in Puxin Township featuring a distinctive red brick exterior. It combines Southern Fujian architectural style with Byzantine, Renaissance, and Romanesque elements and contains a main prayer hall, residential quarters, offices, and display rooms.

A Dominican priest named Vinte Gomar founded the original building in 1875, establishing the first Catholic institution in central Taiwan. This beginning marked the start of organized western religious presence in the region.

The building holds objects from Taiwan's early Catholic mission period, including historical documents and religious artifacts. These pieces show how the place helped introduce western culture to local people.

The grounds are open for visitors to explore, with multiple areas including religious and historical display rooms. It is helpful to allow enough time to view both the main structure and the additional buildings on the property.

The grounds contained the first swimming pool in central Taiwan and served as the location where Taiwan's first western-style musical ensemble was established. These developments show how the place brought cultural infrastructure to the region beyond religious practice.
