Kolomyia

Kolomyia is a city in Ivano-Frankivsk region in western Ukraine, situated at about 300 meters elevation along the Prut River and positioned between Ivano-Frankivsk and Chernivtsi. The city functions as the administrative center of its district and bridges historical importance with regional trade connections.

The city emerged in the 13th century as a salt mining center and was first recorded in the Hypatian Chronicle in 1240. It later developed under Polish rule and became an important regional trading point.

The Pysanka Museum displays traditional Ukrainian painted eggs that reflect local artistic skill and regional craft traditions. You can see how these decorated eggs have been part of the community's identity for generations.

The city sits conveniently on a route between two major cities and has a train station connecting to regional destinations. Visitors will find basic services and shops that support a day visit or short stop.

The train station dates from the Austro-Hungarian era and preserves original features from the 19th century. This architecture still tells the story of the region's layered past, when different cultures were intertwined.
