Annunciation church in Kolomyia

The Annunciation Church in Kolomyia is a wooden building with five naves and a dome rising from the center of its cruciform structure. The building occupies a site on the grounds of a former cemetery, now fully incorporated into the expanded city.

An earlier building stood on this site from 1587, but a new wooden structure was constructed in 1709 using local building techniques. The building was substantially enlarged in 1845 and survived various conflicts that affected the region.

The church bears the name of the Annunciation of Mary and reflects the craftsmanship of local woodworkers in its design and decoration. Visitors can observe the careful handwork in the wooden carvings and interior furnishings, which are typical of religious wooden architecture in this region.

The building stands on land that was once a cemetery and can be viewed from outside today, with the location within the expanded city being easy to find.
