Following the grant of Magdeburg rights in 1405, the original building experienced major fires in 1865 and 1871 that led to its reconstruction. The current Renaissance structure emerged from these rebuilding efforts and changes.
The building became a symbol of local identity when regional flags were raised on its tower during a pivotal moment in 1918. It stands today as a reminder of that era in the heart of the city center.
