Cherniakhiv

Cherniakhiv is an urban-type settlement in Zhytomyr Oblast in central-western Ukraine. The community is organized around a compact town center with basic services, housing, and public facilities spread across its boundaries.

The settlement gained urban-type status in 1925 and maintained this classification for nearly a century. In January 2024, legislative reforms reclassified it as a rural settlement, marking a significant shift in its administrative standing.

The settlement demonstrates the transformation of administrative structures in Ukraine through its shift from Soviet-era urban classification to contemporary rural designation.
