Kudryntsi Castle, Castle ruins in Kudryntsi, Chortkiv Raion, Ukraine

Kudryntsi Castle is a ruined sandstone fortress on a plateau above the Zbruch River. Its irregular quadrilateral plan, 70 m long and 25 m wide, retains the southern, western and northern walls, part of the southern five-sided tower, the north-western hexagonal three-tier tower and part of the gate tower. Walls are 1.5 m thick, with rectangular loopholes and beam sockets visible in the masonry.

Kudryntsi Castle was built from sandstone in the early 17th century by the Polish noble Herburt family of the Pawęża coat of arms, on a plateau above the Zbruch River. In summer 1648 Cossack detachments under Maksym Kryvonis and rebellious peasants expelled the crown garrison. The Turks captured it in 1672 and 1694. In the early 18th century the Humenetski family turned it into a residence, adding a six-room house to the eastern wall.

The castle shows how people in this region built fortifications to protect important routes and settlements in the valley below. Visitors can see how the location allowed defenders to monitor the surrounding territory and control movement through the area.

The ruins are accessible year-round, though the climb to the hilltop requires some physical effort and sturdy footwear is recommended. The ground around the remains can be uneven and parts of the structure remain fragile, so visitors should take care when moving around the site.

The walls are 1.5 m thick, and the castle's interior measures 70 m by 25 m. A small arched gate in the south wall was used for surprise attacks on the enemy, and a shallow hollow near the hexagonal tower marks the site of a former well.
