Zhovkva Castle, Renaissance castle in Zhovkva, Ukraine
The square-shaped castle features four corner towers, thick defensive walls, and a main entrance adorned with Renaissance architectural elements from 1606.
The castle construction started in 1594 by hetman Stanisław Żółkiewski and later served as residence for Polish king Jan III Sobieski and the Radziwiłł family.
The castle compound includes a palatine chapel consecrated in 1640 and held celebrations for military victories during the late seventeenth century.
Visitors can access the castle grounds through guided tours that explain the military architecture and living quarters of the former noble residents.
The castle once maintained a garden with a menagerie containing wisents, deer, and chamois, demonstrating the luxurious lifestyle of its noble inhabitants.
