Yavorivskyi National Nature Park, National nature park in Lviv Oblast, Ukraine
Yavorivskyi National Nature Park is a protected area in Lviv Oblast covering about 7,000 hectares with diverse landscape types. The park contains wetlands, rivers, mixed forests with beech and oak, and grasslands situated along the European watershed divide.
The area received national park status in 1998 through a presidential decree, having previously been designated as a regional landscape park. This change represented a commitment to stronger protection of the area's diverse ecosystems.
The park is home to a specialized breeding center for tarpans, bringing visitors face to face with these wild horses that once roamed Ukrainian lands. You can observe these rare animals and learn about their place in the region's natural heritage.
The park offers trails for hiking, cycling, and swimming with marked routes and recreational areas. Visitors should bring sturdy footwear and weather protection, as the terrain is wet and varied.
Rivers within the park flow in opposite directions, with some heading toward the Black Sea and others toward the Baltic Sea. This geography places the park directly on the European watershed divide.
