Bear Sanctuary Domazhyr

Bear Sanctuary Domazhyr is a protection center in Lviv Oblast that houses rescued brown bears in expansive outdoor enclosures and rehabilitation areas. The facility provides natural habitats with forests, streams, and open spaces where the animals can move freely and recover.

The sanctuary was founded in 2013 to help brown bears rescued from illegal fighting rings and hunting stations. The initiative emerged as a response to widespread animal abuse in the region.

Educational guided tours at the sanctuary inform visitors about Ukrainian wildlife protection efforts and the importance of creating safe environments for rescued animals.

Visitors can explore the grounds on foot and join guided tours to learn about the sanctuary's work. The best time to visit is early in the day when the bears are most active and easier to observe.

Twenty-seven bears, each rescued from different circumstances of neglect or abuse, now receive specialized veterinary care and rehabilitation in specially designed enclosures.
