Stradchanska Cave, Underground monastery cave in Lviv Oblast, Ukraine
Stradchanska Cave extends 359 meters beneath the surface along the left bank of the Vereshchytsia River near Stradch village in Yavoriv district.
The cave functioned as a monastery until the 14th century and contains a stone cross dating back to the 11th century within its chambers.
Inside the cave complex, visitors encounter monastic cells, a stone confession chair, and walls decorated with mineral formations called tears of the Virgin Mary.
The protected natural monument spans 28.9 hectares and maintains specific areas restricted from public access to preserve its geological formations and ecosystems.
This cave served as the second most important underground monastery after Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra during the time of Kievan Rus and Galicia-Volyn principality.
