Hotel Grand Moscow, Cultural heritage hotel in Deribasivska Street, Odesa, Ukraine
Hotel Grand Moscow is an Art Nouveau building from the early 1900s located on Deribasivska Street in the heart of Odesa. Its facade is covered with organic lines, floral ornaments, and layered reliefs that run across several floors, making it one of the more decorated buildings on the street.
The building was put up between 1901 and 1904 to serve as the headquarters of a tea trading company, before the Dementieva family turned it into a hotel. That shift from commerce to hospitality defined how it developed over the following decades.
The building's name reflects a time when Odesa had strong ties to Russian merchant culture, something still readable in the richness of the facade's ornamental details. Today, the street-level setting places it right in the flow of daily city life along one of Odesa's most frequented walking streets.
The hotel sits on Deribasivska Street, one of the main pedestrian axes of Odesa, which makes it easy to reach on foot from most parts of the city center. From there, a short walk connects you to a number of other points of interest in the area.
During a renovation, solar panels and a rainwater collection system were added to the building while leaving the historical exterior untouched. These additions are nearly invisible from the street, which shows how carefully the work was done to avoid altering the original appearance.
