Russov House, Neo-baroque building near Soborna Square, Odesa, Ukraine
Russov House is a neo-baroque building located near Soborna Square in Odesa. The structure displays green-white facades with ornamental details and a distinctive hexagonal tower topped with a rounded dome on Sadova Street.
Construction of this building took place from 1897 to 1900, commissioned by merchant Alexander Russov. Architects Leonid Chernigov and Wilhelm Schmidt designed the structure during a period of commercial growth in the city.
The building combines neo-baroque style with elaborate window frames, balconies, and sculpted figures supporting its upper sections. These decorative details reflect how wealthy merchants displayed their status through ornate residential architecture.
The building underwent major restoration work completed in 2019, adding new lighting systems and structural improvements. Its location on Sadova Street near the main square makes it easy to find and approach.
A historic pharmacy called Gaevsky operated inside this building starting from 1878 and served as a key medical establishment in the southern Russian Empire. This operation made the address a center for healthcare services in the city.
