Mayurov House, Historical building on Hretska Square, Odesa, Ukraine
Mayurov House is a circular building on Hretska Square in Odesa that divides the square into two distinct sections through its distinctive rounded form. Today it combines original facade elements from the 1800s with a modern shopping center that occupies the ground level, creating a blend of old and new uses.
Colonel Aleksey Mayurov commissioned the building in 1841 with architect Ivan Dallakva, who received approval from Prince Vorontsov for the design. During the 1920s it served as a museum dedicated to Communist Party history under Sergei Martynovsky's direction.
The building transformed into the Museum of Communist Party History during the 1920s under Sergei Martynovsky's management, leading to the square's temporary renaming.
The building sits prominently on the square and is easy to find and approach from all directions. Visitors can view the exterior architecture and walk around the space at their own pace.
During the events of May 2014, the building became central to local conflicts, with its rooftop serving as a strategic position in street confrontations.
