Mykola Lysenko House-Museum, House museum in Saksahanskoho Street, Kyiv, Ukraine.
The Mykola Lysenko House-Museum is a residence on Saksahanskoho Street in Kyiv where the Ukrainian composer lived and worked. The rooms contain personal belongings, manuscripts, photographs, and furniture from his time, presented across two floors that balance exhibits about his creative work with spaces showing how he lived.
The composer Mykola Lysenko lived in this building from 1894 to 1912 and created much of his musical work there. After his death, the residence was converted into a cultural museum and opened to the public in 1980.
The museum displays traditional Ukrainian instruments such as the wheeled lyre and items from Lysenko's artistic life. Visitors can see how these objects shaped his daily work and creative practice as a composer.
The museum spans two floors with different areas, with the first floor showing works and archives while the second floor contains the original living spaces with preserved furnishings. Visitors should allow enough time to explore both levels and view the various exhibition areas.
The study room features a conductor's baton inlaid with mother-of-pearl, a special object from Lysenko's artistic career. The restored parquet flooring and preserved tiled stoves show the craftsmanship of the original interior.
