Bizyukov monastery, Orthodox monastery in Chervonyi Maiak, Ukraine
Bizyukov Monastery is a religious complex located along the Dnipro River featuring five churches and a large cathedral constructed from red brick in traditional Orthodox style. The site comprises an extensive range of buildings, underground chambers, and cave spaces built into the riverside slopes.
The monastery was established in 1803 following a decree by Tsar Alexander I to create a new religious center to replace an earlier hermitage in the area. This founding began a new period of organized Orthodox presence in the region.
The monastery remains an active place of Orthodox worship where visitors can observe religious services and celebrations that reflect the faith of southern Ukraine. People gather here for important church occasions, making it a living center of Christian practice.
The complex can be explored by visitors interested in walking through underground passages and viewing historic cave chambers throughout the site. Guided tours work best for understanding the layout and accessing various areas within the monastery grounds.
The site contains kilometer-long underground passages and cavities carved into the river slopes, possibly created by Cossack groups in earlier centuries. These tunnel systems remain unusual for a monastery and add a mysterious historical dimension to the visit.
