Hurkalo, Waterfall in Skole district, Lviv Oblast, Ukraine.
Hurkalo is a waterfall on the Velyka Richka River in the forested foothills of the Carpathians, dropping about 5 meters into a pool below. The water separates into two distinct streams as it falls across the rocky ledge before flowing downstream.
The waterfall formed over thousands of years as flowing water gradually carved through rock layers in the river system. Glacial melting from ancient ice ages shaped this landscape and continues to influence how the water flows today.
The waterfall is a place where visitors experience the raw power of nature and flowing water directly. Local people visit during spring when snowmelt brings the river to life, making it a natural gathering point throughout the seasons.
The waterfall is reachable from Korchyn village on marked hiking paths, with access also possible from nearby Krushelnytsia. Wear sturdy shoes for the forest trails and visit in spring when water flow is at its highest.
After heavy rains, water from the Parashka Range crashes down with a thunderous roar that echoes through the valley. The pool below fills to a considerable depth with strong currents, creating a dramatically different experience than in drier periods.
