Diukivskyi Park, Historic park in Odesa, Ukraine
Diukivskyi Park is a landscaped green space in Odesa that spreads across three levels along Balkovsky Street. The site features a major staircase, stone pavilions, and a freshwater pond with an island.
The park was founded in 1810 by the Duke de Richelieu, Governor-General of Novorossiya and Bessarabia. It was redesigned in 1949 as a recreation and sports center following changes in the city.
The park served as a filming location for Soviet movies, with directors choosing its spaces for scenes. This role in cinema gave it a special place in local memory.
The park sits on sloped terrain, so wear comfortable shoes and allow time to explore all levels. The different sections are connected by stairs, which shapes how you move through the space.
A spring within the park has historical roots reaching back to 1789, when it provided water to troops marching to capture a nearby fortress. This water source connects the place to an important military chapter in the city's past.
