Manhush, Urban settlement in eastern Ukraine
Manhush is an urban-type settlement in eastern Ukraine situated on rolling terrain surrounded by farmland. The community serves as an administrative center within the Manhush settlement hromada structure.
The settlement was established in 1826 as a residential center in the eastern territories of present-day Ukraine. In 2024, it underwent administrative restructuring when new legislation eliminated the Soviet-era urban-type settlement classification system.
The settlement maintains its designation under multiple names across languages, including Мангуш in Ukrainian and Manhusch in German, reflecting regional diversity.
The settlement sits in the Donetsk region at an elevation of about 56 meters on rolling hills. The terrain allows easy exploration, especially if you stick to main paths and keep in mind that surrounding farmland is privately owned.
The settlement underwent a transformation in 2024 following new legislation that removed the Soviet-era urban-type settlement classification system in Ukraine.
