Nikolske, Settlement in Donetsk Oblast, Ukraine
Nikolske is an urban-type settlement in Donetsk Oblast situated at about 131 meters (430 feet) above sea level. The community functions as an administrative center within the Mariupol district of eastern Ukraine.
The settlement was founded in 1831 under the original name Volodarske and was renamed Nikolske in 2016 as part of Ukraine's decommunization laws. This change reflected efforts to revise Soviet-era designations across the country.
The settlement maintains a mixed population of Ukrainians, Russians, Greeks, and Belarusians, with Ukrainians comprising approximately fifty-three percent of residents.
The community operates on Eastern European Time and uses postal codes ranging from 87000 to 87004. Travel outside the winter months is recommended for easier road access through the region.
Administrative restructuring in 2020 transformed the settlement from the center of Nikolske Raion into a component of Mariupol Raion. This reorganization significantly altered how local government and public services operate in the community.
