The Lower Castle occupies a strategic position in the northeastern corner of Lviv, featuring mannerism architectural elements and defensive fortifications.
King Casimir III of Poland ordered the construction of the castle in 1362, establishing it as an administrative center for the region.
The castle functioned as the seat of royal power, housing important state documents and serving as a venue for noble gatherings.
The castle grounds now contain a marketplace called Lviv Vernissage, where visitors can purchase traditional crafts and antiques.
The structure contained Saint Catherine's Chapel and numerous facilities, including kitchens and stables, before Austrian authorities dismantled it.
