Niski Zamek we Lwowie is a castle in the northeastern corner of Lviv featuring mannerism architecture and defensive structures. The grounds now host a marketplace called Lviv Vernissage where traditional crafts and antiques are sold to visitors.
King Casimir III of Poland commissioned its construction in 1362 to establish an administrative center for the region. Austrian authorities later dismantled much of the structure after it had served the city for centuries.
The site served as a seat of power where noble gatherings took place and important decisions were made. Visitors can observe how this location functioned as a hub of authority in the city's social and political life.
The site is easily accessible and best visited during pleasant weather for strolling through the grounds. The marketplace has its own operating hours, so it is worth checking in advance when you plan to visit.
The complex once contained Saint Catherine's Chapel and various facilities including kitchens and stables that have since disappeared. These spaces reveal how extensive this medieval fortress was in its original form.
