Monument to Bohdan Khmelnytsky in Kyiv, Bronze monument at Sophiivska Square, Kyiv, Ukraine
The equestrian statue depicts Hetman Bohdan Khmelnytsky mounted on a horse, with his right hand holding a mace pointing northeast.
The monument was unveiled in July 1888 during the celebration of the 900th anniversary of the Christianization of Kyiv Rus.
The bronze figure stands on a pedestal resembling a steppe burial mound, reflecting the connection between Cossack heritage and Ukrainian national identity.
The memorial stands 10.85 meters tall and remains a central meeting point in Kyiv, located between Saint Sophia Cathedral and Saint Michael's Golden-Domed Monastery.
The facial features of the statue were modeled according to historical consultations with Professor Volodymyr Antonovych to ensure historical accuracy.
