The Southern Tower stands as a solid stone structure with four tiers, displaying Ukrainian Baroque architectural elements and intricate decorative details throughout its facade.
Constructed between 1699 and 1706 with funds from Hetman Ivan Mazepa, the tower replaced an earlier wooden structure that burned down in 1697.
The tower features carved stone figures of notable religious and historical figures, including Andrew the Apostle and Prince Volodymyr of Kyiv.
Visitors can access the tower through the cathedral grounds, with guided tours available in multiple languages from professional guides at the entrance.
The tower contains carved inscriptions and decorative elements that combine Orthodox Christian symbols with traditional Ukrainian architectural motifs of the 17th century.
