Recreation park named after Bohdan Khmelnytsky, Public park in Halychyna district, Lviv, Ukraine
Recreation park named after Bohdan Khmelnytsky is a 26-hectare green space in Halychyna district with an 800-meter central alley running through its entire layout. The grounds include walking paths, shaded seating areas beneath mature trees, and a dedicated amusement section with rides and activities for visitors of various ages.
The park was established in 1951 on a former waste disposal site, replacing the historical Pelchynsky pond where nobility once gathered in the 19th century. This transformation from a dumping ground into a public green space represented a major shift in Lviv's urban development.
The park hosts the annual Leopolis Grand Prix vintage car exhibition and the international Leopolis Jazz Fest, drawing visitors from across Ukraine.
The amusement area with attractions like a Ferris wheel and go-kart track operates Wednesday through Sunday from 11:00 to 19:00. Arriving earlier in the day on weekends helps avoid the heaviest crowds that typically build in the afternoon.
Since June 2020, the park displays the Calendar of War installation, documenting significant events of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict. This memorial serves as a constant reminder to visitors of the nation's recent history and transforms the recreational space into a place of reflection.
