Yampil, Urban settlement in Lyman Raion, Ukraine.
Yampil is an urban-type settlement in eastern Ukraine, located at a crossroads of local roads in Donetsk Oblast. The community sits on elevated terrain and connects to regional transportation networks through a railway station built in 1911.
The settlement dates to 1665 when the land belonged to Sviatohirsk Lavra monastery and was defended by Cossack groups. In 1718 the community relocated to higher ground to escape severe flooding that threatened the original location.
The Mykolaiv Church shapes the spiritual life of the community and reflects Orthodox traditions that remain important to residents today. This place of worship stands as a visible expression of faith in the settlement.
The settlement has an educational complex serving local residents, making it easy to understand the community's basic infrastructure. Visitors can explore the area on foot since main points are spread across manageable terrain.
The original site became known as Old Village by 1729 after residents abandoned it due to flooding. This name preserves the memory of where the community once stood before its relocation.
