Bazaltovi Stovpy

Bazaltovi Stovpy is a protected geological formation in Rivne Oblast featuring distinctive hexagonal basalt columns that rise dramatically from the ground. The site occupies a concentrated area near the village of Basalt where these vertical stone structures create a remarkable natural landscape.

The basalt columns formed approximately 600 million years ago when volcanic activity and cooling lava created geometric crystalline patterns in the rock. These natural processes produced the distinctive hexagonal structures visible at the site today.

Scientists and researchers conduct regular geological studies at the site to examine the mineral composition, including adular, chlorite, quartz, and calcite deposits.

Walking paths and marked viewing points allow visitors to approach and photograph the columns from multiple angles throughout the year. The site is accessible for exploration, though the terrain and weather conditions should be considered when planning your visit.

Each column displays nearly perfect hexagonal cross-sections, created through natural crystallization processes rather than human shaping. This geometric precision is so regular that the structures appear almost deliberately arranged.
