Museum of Trypillia Culture in Verteba, Underground museum in Bilche Zolote Hromada, Ukraine.

The Museum of Trypillia Culture is housed in a natural gypsum cave system that extends for several kilometers with interconnected passages and consistent underground temperatures. The site displays archaeological finds from the ancient Trypillian civilization within the cave's chambers and galleries.

The cave was discovered in 1823 when a landowner found ceramic objects at the entrance, which sparked scientific study of the Trypillian culture in this region. These early findings revealed that the area had been inhabited by ancient agricultural communities millennia ago.

The displays feature pottery and tools created by the Trypillian people, revealing how early farmers lived and worked in this region thousands of years ago. Walking through the exhibits helps visitors understand the daily practices and skills of these ancient communities.

Bring warm clothing and a flashlight, as the underground passages are cool and lighting is limited throughout the site. Guided tours follow marked paths through the cave system and require a moderate level of physical activity.

During World War II, the cave sheltered people fleeing persecution, and evidence of their presence was discovered decades later by researchers. This hidden chapter connects the site in an unexpected way to a darker period of recent history.
