Battle of the Korsun–Cherkassy Pocket Museum

The museum in Korsun-Shevchenkivskyi documents the 1944 battle in the Korsun-Cherkassy Pocket between German and Soviet forces in the region. Displays include weapons, military equipment, photographs, documents, and recovered vehicle fragments from the battlefield.

The battle was fought in 1944 when Soviet forces encircled German troops in a harsh winter conflict in the region. The facility opened in 1945 to preserve this important World War II event.

The displays show personal items, letters, and military decorations left by soldiers from both armies who fought in this winter conflict. Visitors gain insight into how people from both sides recorded their experiences during the battle.

Visitors can explore three main exhibition halls with military artifacts and historical documents, with help from staff who know the collections well. The site is walkable and straightforward to visit.

The facility preserves fragments of military vehicles recovered from the battlefield, including tanks that sank in the Gniloy Tikich River during the German withdrawal. These underwater finds offer direct evidence of the fighting at this location.
