Hill of Glory, War memorial complex in Cherkasy, Ukraine.
Hill of Glory is a memorial complex set on raised ground in Cherkasy, Ukraine, dedicated to those who died in war. The site includes a central monument, open green grounds, and burial areas for soldiers whose remains were brought together from different parts of the city.
The complex was established in 1977 to serve as a central place for reburying soldiers previously scattered across the city. Over time it became the main site where the city gathered its memory of military losses from the war years.
The hill carries the names of people from Cherkasy who died in war, making remembrance very personal for local families. Those who walk through the grounds can read the inscriptions and feel the direct connection between the city and its losses.
The site is about 2 kilometers from the center of Cherkasy and can be reached on foot or by public transport. The grounds are open and easy to walk through, so visitors can move at their own pace without any fixed route.
Two recipients of the Soviet Union's highest honor are buried on the grounds, their graves placed among those of the other soldiers without any special enclosure. This means a visitor can stand next to the resting place of nationally recognized figures while walking through what otherwise feels like a local memorial.
