Сокільська скеля, Geological monument near Tiudiv village, Ukraine.
Sokilska Rock is a geological formation in the Pokutsko-Bukovynian Carpathians that rises about 100 meters high along the Cheremosh River. Layers of sandstone and limestone were exposed over millions of years through the river's erosive action.
The rock wall developed through millions of years of erosion by the Cheremosh River, exposing different geological layers. This formation is directly connected to the Carpathians' geological history and the region's tectonic movements.
At the southern end of the rock formation stands an early monument to poet Taras Shevchenko. It reflects the site's connection to Ukrainian literary and cultural history.
The formation is accessible via the T2601 highway from Chernivtsi to Putyla, which runs between the villages of Tiudiv and Velykyi Rozhyn. Access is straightforward, and the site offers good viewpoints to observe the rock structure and riverbank from different angles.
The rock face displays clearly visible patterns of flysch deformation that show the effects of tectonic movements in the Earth's crust. These geological features are especially interesting for visitors wanting to understand the internal forces that shaped mountain building.
