Старосеверная бухта, Bay inlet in Sevastopol, Ukraine.
Starosevernaya Bay is a coastal inlet in Sevastopol that extends several kilometers eastward and is framed by steep rocky cliffs. The water body provides natural shelter and is lined with modern breakwaters that create safe anchorage points for vessels.
The bay served as an important port for the ancient Greek settlement of Chersonesus Taurica from the 5th century BCE. During the Soviet era, breakwater structures were built to enhance harbor protection and secure vessels from storms.
Local fishermen gather along the half-kilometer stretch of the bay's southern breakwater during weekends to practice recreational fishing.
Summer offers the best visiting conditions when weather is calm and visibility across the bay is good. The shoreline is easily accessible and walkable along the breakwater structures, though some sections may have varying terrain and conditions.
Below the breakwaters lie protective structures that extend to the seafloor, installed during the Soviet period. These barriers were an engineering project to secure maritime infrastructure and now remain hidden beneath the water surface.
