Цареборисівське городище, Medieval hillfort in Kharkiv Oblast, Ukraine.
Tsareborysivske Hillfort is an archaeological site located on the right bank of the Oskil River in Kharkiv Oblast. The settlement features two defensive lines that create a central fortified zone and two outer districts spread across a large territory.
The fortress was built at the end of the 16th century and played a role in the conflicts between 1599 and 1612. It was reoccupied in the second half of the 17th century as a settlement, showing how the area changed hands over time.
The site takes its name from Tsar Boris Godunov and served as a significant gathering place for communities in the region. Visitors can still observe how the settlement was organized and imagine the daily routines of those who lived here.
The site is marked by a stone memorial stele and sits directly beside the river, making it easy to locate. Visitors should expect uneven terrain and should be prepared for muddy conditions, especially after rain.
Excavations in 2007 revealed remains of a steel-working facility from the 16th century at the site. This discovery shows that early metalworking happened here, suggesting the settlement had more economic activity than researchers first thought.
